Region 6 - South England

Overview

As a Region, we celebrate many occasions which include the following: Easter, Swami's Birthday, Shivarathri, Akhanda bhanjans and Christmas. We aim to meet on a quarterly basis and also have annual meetings which include Regional Family Values Day, Isle of Wight and Ellen's Green Symposiums. At centre and group level we also have Group Devotional Singing and Study Circles and lessons to learn to chant Vedam.

Each group and centre has a very unique make up and the activities that take place reflect this. This varies from service activities which include 'one off' projects such as gardening at care homes and painting and renovating a community centre; to knitting blankets and toys for third world children. These activities take place on both a local and regional level and all activities are supported by other centres and groups.

The Region aims to take free healthcare which includes eye and dental checks to 'keep-fit' sessions out into the local communities. This community need is met through organising Free Walk In Health Awareness Days, which have been joint ventures between SSSSO UK, local Primary Care Trusts and supported by Health Awareness charities which include 'Quit 4 Life' and The British Heart Foundation.

The Region also supports the 'Trees for Cities Project' a warden and tree planting programme.

The centres within Region 6 are: Reading, Farnborough and Folkestone and Groups are: Portsmouth, Southampton, Woking, Farnham, Brighton & Hove, Ashford, Guildford, Rochester and Basingstoke. For your nearest centre please click here.
